Chef Siu Hin-chi, Chinese Executive Chef of The Langham, Hong Kong has over 20 years cooking experience and understands a healthy diet is critical for both pregnant mothers and their babies. To this end, he and his team have created four different menus using a variety of healthy nutrition-rich foods. Each menu has been especially tailor-made for four pregnancy stages: the 1st to 3rd trimester and post-pregnancy.
As each element plays a vital role in the successful development of babies’ nervous systems and main viscera, pregnant women need to increase their intake of folic acid, iron and calcium during their 1st trimester. As a result, Chef Siu has included food rich in these nutrients including legumes, fish, milk and kelp in his menu for this stage. During 2nd and 3rd trimesters, protein and calcium become essential for growing babies, so Chef Siu has used high-protein, low-fat ingredients such as sea cucumber, fish maw and hasma. For his post- pregnancy menu, Chef Siu has blended ginger, radix codonopsis and beef to achieve optimum health and stimulate circulatory system.
