THE LANGHAM, HONG KONG LAUNCHES AFTERNOON TEA WITH WEDGWOOD TO CELEBRATE THE RE-OPENING OF PALM COURT

A celebration of Langham’s heritage as the birthplace of English Afternoon Tea

(Hong Kong, September, 2014) – The Langham, Hong Kong celebrates the launch of the new, elegant Palm Court lounge by presenting the exclusive afternoon indulgence, “The Langham Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood”.

The Langham Hotels and Wedgwood have collaborated globally to introduce a bespoke version of the afternoon tradition – “The Langham Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood” – serving Wedgwood specialty teas in tailor-made “Langham Rose” Wedgwood tea ware with unique menus created by the hotels’ pastry chefs worldwide. The Langham, Hong Kong is the first to launch this afternoon tea.

The Langham, Hong Kong’s new award-winning executive pastry chef, Reinhard Lackner, has created a special menu of delicate finger-sandwiches and exclusive cakes, pastries, desserts and scones for a palatable experience.

In the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, Palm Court re-opens following a glamorous facelift, restyled after its namesake at The Langham, London where traditional English afternoon tea was first served almost 150 years ago.

With a choice of teas selected by our Wedgwood Tea Academy-trained and certified tea sommelier, the Afternoon Tea experience begins with a selection of delicate nibbles. This is followed by artistically-crafted pastries and cakes, which are presented to include signature treats created by Chef Reinhard such as Rose-scented Lychee Mousse, which is a burgundy red chocolate cup with hints of gold, a rose scented raspberry coulis filled with lychee mousse, topped with pink icing rose petals and fresh raspberries.

Chef Reinhard’s delicate and unique take on the Blueberry Crumble, consists of a mini purple chocolate cup with silver design, blueberry and cream cheese filling, all balanced on a graham crumble with fresh blueberries. Topped with a white chocolate and silver leaf diamond ring, this dessert is inspired by the world’s leading luxury and fashion brands in Tsim Sha Tsui’s stylish shopping district where The Langham, Hong Kong is located at.

The specially created Crispy Raspberry Éclair has been modified from its more traditional chocolate state. The crispy choux pastry exterior contrasts with the smooth raspberry cream filling, all finished with a pink glaze, raspberry crisps and white chocolate disk.

Using only the freshest and best seasonal produce, finger sandwiches range from crab, cucumber and avocado, organic brown egg with mustard cress, cured ham with vine tomato and grain mustard, to Langham’s in-house smoked salmon with crème fraîche and dill, and traditional poached chicken with coronation mayonnaise.

Also included are a warm selection of plain and golden raisin scones from the Palm Court bakery, served with Devonshire clotted cream with strawberry and rose preserve.

“The pastries are presented harmoniously to complement the design of the Langham rose Wedgwood tea ware. In creating the pastries and desserts, I have taken inspirations from the design of the new Palm Court, the stylish and vibrant surroundings of Tsim Sha Tsui where the hotel is strategically located. We use only the finest ingredients such as Valrhona Couverture and Madagascar Vanilla Beans to create the best tasting pastries and desserts”, said Reinhard.

The Austrian with over 18 years’ experience working in the pastry arena, added, “I love developing creative designs for my pastries, it is important to ensure the taste and presentation of each dessert complement each other and are pleasing on the eye and palate”.

“The Langham Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood” is served on weekdays from 3:00 – 5:30pm, and on weekends and public holidays in two sittings, from 2:15 – 4:15pm, and 4:30 – 6:30pm.

“The Langham Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood” debuts on September 25, 2014 and will include a glass of Veuve Clicquot NV and a pre-appetiser priced at HKD 428 for one person, and HKD 698 for two people. A standard Afternoon Tea will also be available at HKD 298 for one person and HKD 498 for two people.

The newly renovated Palm Court re-opened as part of a US$30 million facelift for The Langham, Hong Kong, declaring a new era of refinement and civility. The refreshed, elegant lounge now presents a dramatic backdrop to the hotel lobby, featuring natural stone flooring and painted timber columns.
