Since the opening of Europe’s first ‘Grand Hotel’ in London in 1865, Langham has been at the forefront of innovative hospitality.

When opening on 10th June, the magnificent Langham Hotel was the first in the world to offer hydraulically-operated lifts, modern plumbing systems, and hot and cold running water in all guest rooms, making The Langham London a ground-breaking establishment and highly sought after destination. For over 148 years, Langham has been redefining hospitality by continuously generating fresh ideas and modern innovations. It is this continued effort that has elevated the group to new levels of service excellence and industry best practices.

Langham Hospitality Group developed the internal “Think Pink” initiative as a way to facilitate and promote innovation, to ultimately capture our guests through new service and product concepts, and with new and improved signatures of hospitality.

“Think Pink”
In celebration of 148 years of Langham innovations, The Langham, Hong Kong will engage our guests in an enchanting line up of innovative events between 7th and 17th June:

Thomas Pink Tiffin Afternoon Tea, June 10 Palm Court

On 10th June, 1865, the first serving of Afternoon Tea took place at The Langham, London. Each year Langham hotels hold an 1865 Anniversary Afternoon Tea where tea is served for the same price it was in 1865. This year we have partnered with Thomas Pink, the leading luxury international shirt brand. While you indulge in a luxurious three tiered afternoon tea, Thomas Pink models will showcase latest collections as they gently glide around Palm Court. One lucky guest who is selected as “Best Dressed” will win a “Pretty in Pink” gift voucher valued at HK$2,000 from Thomas Pink, including a session with a personal stylist. Find out more…

1865 Change of the Day

The Change of the Day is an evening ritual that celebrates the transition from day to night that occurs every evening at “1865” (7:05pm). At 19:05 each day Langham hotels worldwide celebrate the change of day where the day ends and night begins and presents its own unique ritual that references the history or location of the hotel. To celebrate our “Think Pink” week, at 7pm daily, the lobby will be filled with the bell chimes of the tower of London striking 7 times. 10 immaculately dressed butlers will make a grand entrance into the lobby and stand to attention until 7:05pm, and then proceed to offer guests in the lobby and Palm Court a special birthday treat.

Tea Party in our lobby

The practice of enjoying tea in the afternoon began with the Duchess of Bedford (1788-1861) and evolved into a social event. Afternoon Tea has been served at The Langham London since 1865. To celebrate Langham's long history of serving afternoon tea, our hotel lobby will be transformed into an enchanting wonderland in a magical Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme with lavish decorations.

We hope that you will enjoy discovering the array of innovations that Langham has developed over the past 148 years.
